Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A lab grown diamond is carbon crystallized in the same structure as a mined diamond, so it has the same chemistry, the same hardness and the same sparkle. The only difference is where it formed: above ground in a controlled process, instead of deep underground.

The US Federal Trade Commission defines a diamond by what it is, not where it came from, and gem labs grade lab grown diamonds on the same color, clarity and carat scales.

What does IGI certified mean, and which certificate do I get?

IGI, the International Gemological Institute, is one of the largest independent diamond grading labs in the world. Every lab grown diamond piece is IGI certified and comes with a numbered Estara certificate. Rings and earrings whose main diamonds are 0.5 ct or more each get an IGI report for each of those diamonds.

Pieces with smaller diamonds, and every tennis bracelet, get an IGI jewelry report: IGI checks the finished piece and records the total carat weight, color and clarity. The product page shows which IGI report comes with the size you choose.

Solid gold, gold vermeil or sterling silver: what is the difference?

Solid gold (14K or 10K) is gold alloy all the way through. It won't wear away or change color, and it keeps its value as metal.

Gold vermeil is 925 sterling silver with a thick layer of gold on top. You get the look of gold for less, and the gold layer can wear down after years of daily wear.

925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. It's bright and strong, and a quick polish keeps it shiny. Every metal holds the same diamonds.

Push back or screw back: which should I choose?

Push backs slide onto the post. They're the classic choice: quick to put on and comfortable for everyday wear.

Screw backs thread onto the post, so they can't slip off. Choose them for larger stones, if you've lost an earring before, or if you just want extra peace of mind. You pick your back on the product page, along with carat and metal.
